The Luxurious Seidelberg Vineyards

When visiting South Africa, one of the most luxurious wineries and accommodations can be found at the Seidelberg Vineyards, located in Paarl. More than just a vineyard offering exclusive wines, the accommodations come highly recommended on service as well as the setting. Wherever your travels take you in South Africa, this winery is among one of the top stops you should make.

The winery has been established since 1692. On the estate, visitors will find guest houses with a four star rating, with proximity to the mountain air and amazing views. These country houses are not without premium amenities; guests will find wireless internet, satellite and air conditioned rooms, as well as a sauna, swimming pool and more for guest.

Seidelberg Vineyards is known for personalized service, and individual needs are accommodated. Breakfasts baskets are delivered at requested time, and guests can enjoy the on site restaurant or a private picnic packed by the staff.

While the accommodations are important, the wine may be the highlight of the visit. Guests may meet the resident wine maker while visiting, Cerina De Jongh. Since 2002, she has worked for Seidelberg, marrying tradition and modern technologies to produce a bottle of wine that may not be rivaled by many others.

Seidelberg wines are offered in a full gamut of flavors, with wine-tastings available year round. For the true connoisseur, there is a full description of wines, along with recommendations for pairing with certain foods and the occasion for which its appropriate.

One of the more specialized wines from Seidelberg is the Chenin Viognier. This 2008 harvest has the hint of dry pear and peach, with a hint of apricot, jasmine and a dash of nutmeg. This is a unique combination not found in most wines.

Another good choice is the De Leuwen Jagt, which was produced from an unusual harvest that had endured heat waves, excessive rain and cold spells. This much anticipated wine comes from grapes in the Rasonville region, being gently crushed and pressed. It has been fermented to a dry wine in stainless steel, with fruity and flowery flavors.

Quality control of the wines is a priority for this vineyard. Grapes are planted with eighty percent of the varieties being red, which is made into the cabernet, shiraz and merlots to name a few. The grapes are harvested by hand, and selected by hand on a sorting table to ensure quality is at a premium.

Grapes are immediately processed and passed through a crusher and into the cellar - thus the wine making process begins.

With the many available blends and choices in wines, and a family and staff dedicated to keeping this tradition alive, Seidelberg is the perfect vineyards for the novice to the expert - there is something everyone will enjoy.

While visiting, be ready to bring some bottles home, not just for yourself! These make the perfect gift, as South African wines have begun to grow in popularity as more people discover this hidden jewel.
